Presentation: Trauma, Moral Distress and Moral Injuries

Dr. Jeff Morley is a Registered Psychologist, and Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress.  Jeff also served 23 years as police officer in the RCMP, retiring as Staff Sergeant in 2013.  In his practice Jeff works extensively with first responders providing counselling, as well as conducting training for first responder agencies across Canada on Peer Support, CISM, Trauma-Informed Leadership, Moral Distress and Moral Injuries as well as Compassion Fatigue and Resilience.

This session will take a deeper dive in to the different types of traumas first responders can face, and the different ways these traumas can affect first responders in terms of their physical health, mental heath, emotions, behaviours, and even how these types of traumas may effect affect their worldview and spirituality. Session will conclude with discussion on evolving treatments for first responder trauma, including a discussion of new and unfolding psychedelic psychotherapies such as MDMA and its role in trauma recovery.
