Anita Watts, BKin, MA, PCC, helps professionals in high-stress positions by providing them with strategies and tools to face trauma, avoid burnout, and de-escalate emotionally charged situations. After two decades working with Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Anita now leads conversations and training for first responders through her company, Anita Watts Consulting.
Since retiring from the RCMP in October 2018, Anita has continued to follow her passion for helping individuals ‘Survive and Thrive’ through various trauma and life transitions. She is a Professional Certified Trauma Coach, recognized by the International Coaching Federation, working with Wounded Warriors and helping couples and individuals who are overcoming PTSD. She has also facilitated the Trauma Informed Coaching Certification course. In addition, Anita continues to work within organizations as a speaker, facilitator and coach for various certification courses. Her focus has been on understanding the impact of organizational and operational stress, and how it affects all aspects of an individual’s wellness; physical, psychological, social, and emotional.
Anita’s fun-loving personality, sense of humour and trauma coaching skills combine to create an environment where individuals can safely have difficult conversations. Helping people shift from ‘chaos to calm’, even when their hearts are racing and their thoughts are all over the place, is her speciality. Her professional career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police allowed her the opportunity to educate and train police officers in resiliency strategies for both physical and mental health. In addition, Anita worked as a Peer Counsellor and Crisis Intervention Specialist, supporting first responders following critical incidences.
Anita is also a seasoned athlete having competed in a number of Ironman competitions and marathons. She also enjoys the challenge of climbing mountains in various parts of the world. One of her most memorable feats was climbing Mount Kilimanjaro one day, and running a marathon in the town of Moshi, Africa the very next day. Being outside in nature hiking, cycling, skiing and being is what helps her manage her daily stressors.
